Better late than never posting the pictures from my fabulous Mother's Day trip with friends to Geneva.
It was stereotypically gorgeous flying in over Lake Geneva.
Jet d'Eau is the famous water feature in Lake Geneva
The fact that 12 friends could get out schedules aligned to make a trip like this work was some sort of a miracle. For the record, we have a collective 11 husbands, 27 children, 6 dogs, 2 cats, 4 birds, and a bearded lizard.
Found my name!
We were the top Instagram picture for the race for the weekend :).
Who could visit Switzerland without sampling chocolate - lots and lots of chocolate!
Makeshift phone charging station at dinner
First night's dinner - fondue of course!
Turkish towels make an appearance on vacation
Saturday's day trip to Gruyere was like visiting the Wisconsin of Europe!
Cheese factory tour. It was a little more sophisticated than Rudolph.
The town of Gruyere was adorable. Too bad it was pouring rain, windy & cold.
Dessert at lunch was a Gruyere specialty - meringue with delicious cream on top. It didn't last long
A Callier chocolate factory tour was next. The gift shop was irresistable
Sunday: Race day! On the train to the marathon start line
In the starting area
Aroosha cheering on the marathon runners
Half marathon finishers Lindsey, Jessica & Rachel
Joanna finishing the marathon strong
Here I come!
High 5's all around
The finish line was along this bridge
Our cheering
Joanna is my friend from Ouagadougou. She flew in from the US to join our group. It was so fun introducing her to my Ankara friends.
Post-race Thai food & beer
Just resting my eyes in the lobby!
After the race we went to Chamonix in France to relax at an absolutely gorgeous chalet for a few days. It was heavenly.
Enjoying some evening food & drinks in the living room
Hot tub with beautiful views of the French Alps
This is our chalet. As Ian put it, "that doesn't look like it sucks." It was my motto for the week!
Mimosas for breakfast
They had a super cool (and huge) dining table
Joanna, Jessica, Lora & I walking down to catch the bus into the village
Chamonix was adorable
Jessica moved away from Ankara last year and we were beyond thrilled that she came to meet us for the trip
Lunch in Chamonix
Aroosha making her own fondue take out
Evening of beauty products - weird face masks
On Tuesday we went to Annecy, which is apparently known as the Venice of France with canals running though the city. It was lovely!
Me & Joanna
We happened to be there on market day
I think every city needs a wine truck
We had to have ice cream of course!
Apparently dogs are allowed on the buses in France
Me & Zana near our chalet
Me & Jessica
Relaxing in the sunshine on the back patio
Time to head home again. Au revoir Switzerland!
