Delicious Bodrum Dinner

We ate at Orfoz just off the main beach street in Bodrum.  Unbelievable seafood and the kids were incredibly well behaved the whole time.  Leila tried a bite of everything, sardines, clams, oysters, and I think escargot (the green blob in the center of the photo below.)  Here a couple dishes, but frankly we didn't bother to take pics of the best stuff because it was too delicious looking to stop and photograph.  Also, in the picture below of the crab and Athena, she is horrified that we were eating the poor dead crab.  It was way past her bedtime, so we humored her, but we did scarf it all down in the end.

Afternoon swim

Some friends were also in datca this week so we met them for a few hours of beach time today. They snapped this picture of us swimming in the Mediterranean. It was a wee bit chilly but so much warmer than earlier this week. 

Minivan adventures

Today's minivan adventures include barely squeezing through the narrow alleys getting to our villa in Datça, and taking the ferry across from Datça to Bodrum.

After the ruins at Knidos, we promised the kids some swimming time. It was cold with the wind, but the water was clear and beautiful!

The air and water weren't so cold but that wind - brrr! The girls and Jason went in the water while I stayed in my coat working on promo ads for Diet Coke. 

It’s a small world!

We parked our car next to a carpet shop by chance today. The owner came out and was chatting with us. Here is how the conversation went:

Hi, where are you from?

America.

Oh, I've been there lots of times. Where in America?

Near Chicago. (Our standard answer since it's what most people know). 

Oh yes, Chicago. I flew through there once on my way to visit my brother. He went to school in Wisconsin. 

Really, we are from Wisconsin. Most people have never heard of it. 

Yes, my brother was there for university. In, where was it...yes Stevens Point!

Wait, whaaaat?

We sat down, had some tea & baklava, and chatted about his memories of visiting with his brother. One of his best memories? The mall in Appleton! Ha! (This was 25 years ago, before turkey had malls everywhere).

The giant prawns were definitely not appreciated by the kids who were looking for popcorn shrimp.

Let Spring Break 2019 begin!!

We got on the road after work and stopped 3 hours later in a town famous for its hot springs and thermal hotels. Our apartment-style room has 2 bedrooms, kitchen/living area, and bathroom complete with our own personal thermal tub. We filled it up and took a mini swim/soak at 10pm!

International Day

Last week was International Day at Leila's school. A few other parents chipped in and we represented the USA in the exhibition. Mini pies, lemonade, Rice Krispie treats & chocolate chip cookies for everyone!

Field trip

Athena's school went to the planetarium last week and she got to look through the telescope. I have no idea what she saw.

It's a rare day when play dough keeps everyone entertained for over an hour. Here is the end result. A hamburger, and a plate of...well, food of some sort!

We are watching our friends' dog for the weekend and the kids are loving it! The poor dog is exhausted though from all the running around it's getting. 

Turkish Delight on a Moonlit Night!

You'll all have to take our word for it that it was moonlit. It was cold so we ate indoors. How about changing the words to, "Turkish delight indoors cuz it's cold outside."
