Leila's Times

FOOD TIME
READING TIME
JAIL TIME

Leila tells Taji a joke!

We managed to catch Leila telling Taji a joke she had heard earlier. Here's her telling the joke to Taji, who seems rather stoic.
Now, here's Leila laughing at the punchline, with Taji clearly not thinking the joke was funny at all.
Finally, Leila is laughing so hard at her own joke that she falls over backwards, laughing the whole way. Those two are thick as thieves.

Leila and Andrea enjoying coffee and the newspaper

Just two buddies sharing a cup of joe, and a funny story Leila saw in the newspaper.

at the gym

A new gym opened tonight so we took Leila. She enjoyed the spinning bikes but liked the balloons better.

at the park

Beautiful day. Crazy busy at the park. And, leila loves the leaves. We'll have to take her leaf peeping.

Who does it better?

As all good politically active babies do, Leila reads The Onion every week. She really liked the story about Barack Obama's "Looking Off Into the Future" pose and decided to try it for herself. Pretty good, don't you think?

Leila goes to the Fair

It was an absolutely beautiful early fall day today (70's, no humidity and sunny), so Uncle Chris and the fam packed up and went to Frederick, MD to check out the last day of the last county fair around. We were hunting for corn-dogs and other tasty fair treats. We found the corn dogs in plenty, as well as some stupendous apple dumplings with ice cream.

Oh yeah, we also saw animals, prize winning chickens and roosters of every variety (including guinea fowl?), prize cows, baby piglets, and more alpacas than you could shake a stick at.

I've got the whole world on my head...

What balancing skills! Plus check out Leila's pre-crawling moves. She is on all fours! She really wants to be crawling but can't quite coordinate forward motion just yet. She's getting very, very close.

It's a bird...it's a plane....no, it's a TOOTH!

So we found the very beginnings of a tooth poking out of Leila's bottom gum this afternoon. I caught a quick glimpse of it, but it's pretty camouflaged. I only knew it was there because of how sharp it feels. She doesn't seem to be bothered by it...we'll try to get a photo, but it may be awhile before it's big enough to see in a picture.

New high chair

Ok. So its actually used, but we can tell her its new and she'll never know. If you see her don't tell her. :-)

Leila's evolving expressions

Leila practices her royal wave...
This is Leila's new "happy" face. She has decided this shows happiness much better than a simple smile.
Here's Leila looking a little goofy...
...and this is what we call her "not happy" face. She has also gotten better at expressing displeasure. Maybe she learned it from Erica???

Dinner with Uncle Chris and Aunt Sara

Leila joined us for a little celebratory dinner in honor of Chris getting his new job!

"Helping" fold laundry

Lunch

Jason was done with class early today so we had lunch at an Indian restaurant down the street from my office. Leila was thrilled to sit in the high chair and play with her spatula. After lunch, she wowed all of my colleagues with her cuteness and sitting skills. She also tried to steal my candy bar, but in the end my superior fine motor skills had the upper hand.

Ladder Ball

Who has the best technique? You be the judge...

Picnic on the Mall

We hung out on the Mall for a picnic last night with Uncle Chris, Aunt Sara, and Sara's mom, Mary. Leila had a blast hanging out with everyone.
She wore her christening dress for the picnic since we figured she was going to outgrow it before a formal occasion came around again. Everyone else felt underdressed.

Food grinder success!

Leila liked carrots so much that she ate all of the baby food ones we bought her. I decided to try the food grinder and make some more for her. It was easy and Leila seemed to like them. Her favorite thing to do was take a bite and then turn and rub her mouth all over my shirt. I think we need to invest in a high chair...

having a drink

Just enjoying a night with her bottle.

At the building museum

Thanks to Tropical Storm Hanna, it was a very rainy Saturday. We went to the Building Museum with our friend Heidi and her son Adam. We thought we had an original idea, but the place was filled with kids playing with the giant blocks and Legos they had there and just running around all over the place.

Leila kept trying to eat the blocks.

We built Leila her very own baby-sized house.
Other kids were jealous.
A group photo.

1st Day in Day Care

This is Leila getting telling me she is ready to go to school.  She even has her lunch bag (with milk bottles inside.)

Dropped Leila off at daycare for her first day today. She was too busy eating her feet to notice.
